1.0 Tennis player takes his first steps
1.5 The player has little experience, improves the consistency of shots in the game.
2.0 The player has noticeable deficiencies when performing basic shots. Has a short swing and cannot choose the direction of the strike. Often a tennis player of this level practically does not use the backhand and holds the racket incorrectly in his hand. As a rule, he plays at the net extremely reluctantly.
2.5 The player is trying to anticipate the direction of the ball, but his sense of the court is still poorly developed. In addition, there are some problems with the grip of the racket, approaching the ball, and prefers to run under the forehand. Still has difficulty playing at the net. Can maintain low tempo play with teammates of his own level.
3.0 The tennis player already hits medium-paced balls well, but cannot always control the strength, direction and depth of his hits. Forehands work best. Tries to strengthen the serve, which leads to errors when executing it. The second serve is usually much weaker than the first. At the net he has difficulty with low passing shots. Knows how to perform simple and medium complex candles quite well.
3.5 The player can control the direction of shots of average difficulty, although he lacks a little control of depth and variety, and improves his vision and feel of the court. The player knows how to perform weak directional shots from the left, but powerful shots and high rebounds still require improvement. There is sufficient strength and control when serving. He plays more actively at the net, takes some dribbling shots. Consistently performs smash on light balls.
4.0 The player can perform a variety of strikes, knows how to control the depth and direction of the strike, both from the right and from the left. Has in his arsenal a candle, smash, volleys and powerful knockout blows. He makes the first serve strongly, sometimes to the detriment of accuracy. Has experience in using team tactics when playing in pairs.
4.5 Very varied strokes on the ball, effectively uses power and spin on the ball. Attacks powerfully from the left, but only makes mistakes under pressure. The player competently uses power and twist when hitting, knows how to control the pace of the game, works well with his feet, controls the depth of his shots and is able to change tactics in the game depending on the opponent. The tennis player has a strong and accurate first serve, consistently executes the second, and is able to attack near the net.
5.0 The player has excellent feel for the ball and can often execute the special shots that the game is built on. The athlete is able to win points, “kill” balls from the volley, can force the opponent to make mistakes with shortened balls, successfully uses candles, smashes, half-volleys, and performs the second serve deep and with strong top rotation.
5.5 A tennis player’s main weapon in the game is powerful shots and stability. Depending on the situation, the athlete is able to change the strategy and technique of the game, and can perform reliable shots in difficult moments.
6.0 A tennis player of this level is well qualified and does not need to be classified by the NTRP. Typically, athletes with a 6.0 rating compete in national junior competitions and are nationally ranked.
6.5 A tennis player of level 6.5 is close to 7.0 in terms of playing skill and has experience participating in satellite games.
7.0 World class athlete who takes part in various international tennis tournaments. The main source of income for a top-level player is cash prizes awarded in competitions.
